Plans to "grab" our Internet?

It troubled me to read news reports about the Cybersecurity Act of 2009, S.773. If enacted, the US President could declare a "cybersecurity emergency" and then would have the power to shut down the Internet in the U.S. and the Secretary of Commerce would have access to data, regardless of privacy. Soon after, I read this headline: Obama Plans Internet Grab: FCC to Embrace 'Net Neutrality'. Needless to say, this could have some "negative implications."

Um...

Rewriting the Declaration of Independence?

Via Old Virginia Blog:

Moore told LSR his fifth-grader had to memorize the Declaration of Independence. One catch -- the words were altered: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights ..." Of course the actual text of the document said "all men are created equal."

An Exercise for Thee: Part 3

Holy cow. I simply do not believe it. I didn't expect to have a third part to this series. Certainly, I didn't expect to see what I saw on television last night. Apparently I've been way behind in the news, but I was at a loss for words at the sight.

I write a post as usual, but this time with a prediction of the future, and the very next day, I see it all come true.

My Date with a Robot: Scientific American

Japanese develop 'female' android: BBC NEWS

I remember when someone I know within the scientific community mentioned Ian Malcolm (from Jurassic Park) and then made a statement that, although part of an entirely different conversation, can be applied here. "Everyone is so concerned with the question of 'Can we do it?' without stopping to ask 'Should we?'"

Again. Holy cow.

P.S. If anyone is interested, I saw this on Popular Science's Future Of show from the Science Channel. It is near the beginning of the "Sex" episode, but as a warning I myself chose not to view the rest of the episode due to my expectations of content, so be warned.

An Exercise for Thee: Part 2

Awesome job, everyone! Thanks for participating, and thanks to you all for trying to work with the issue.

Some of you came close to my answer. To those who didn't, awesome try anyways. ;-) I admit it, I was vague.

The "real" answer is.... (Note: Due to the nature of the pending discussion, I would ask that only adults proceed.)

Human/robot sexual relations. I believe that we will see the time come, soon perhaps, when this is deemed a serious issue for discussion (or, perhaps even an issue for activism and possibly even pro-stance legislation, God forbid). As ridiculous as this may seem, if you think about it many innocent minds of the past would likely have found the "LGBT" movement unthinkable. We need to be prepared. Whether such expectations ever come true or not, we are wise to be "ready always" (1 Peter 3:15).

As to a direct Biblical answer to this issue, I would point to the many verses condemning bestiality in the Bible. While robots are not actually mentioned in the Bible (clearly), to claim that the holy, revealed Word of God is not complete and all-encompassing is making one elephant of an heretical claim. (See 2 Timothy 3:16 just to start with.) We have the greatest instruction manual of all time, one that gives us all the answers we will ever need in life. I subscribe to the hermeneutic position that even Biblical patterns and precedents and such can, if properly interpreted, be used as applications for matters that the Bible is seemingly "silent" on.

Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.
Exodus 22:19

Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Leviticus 18:23

And if a woman approach unto any beast, and lie down thereto, thou shalt kill the woman, and the beast: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.
Leviticus 20:16

Cursed be he that lieth with any manner of beast. And all the people shall say, Amen.

Deuteronomy 27:21

While it doesn't say "robot", "android" or anything else in the Bible, I still am confident that the answers are clearly given. Sexual relations with animals are clearly and absolutely forbidden. I declare this to be the same as with robots (And yes, even non-sexual human/robot "romances" would be impermissible!).

This would be my answer. However, I am by no means impressed with my own opinions, therefore I do not hold that this is the only answer to this issue out there. I'll leave that for better men to find.

Whatcha all think?

An Exercise for Thee: Part 1

Take a peek at this commercial/title theme to the Science Channel's show, Popular Science's Future Of.

Despite being rather humorous and perhaps a bit thought provoking, this commercial inadvertently raises a question that I believe will become an issue in the not-so-distant future. It will be a moral question, and although to my knowledge it has not yet been seriously discussed, I believe that the Bible already has a clear answer.

So, can any of you find what the question is, and if so, can you provide us with a biblical answer?

Huzzah for Scott Summers!

I love YouTube! I just saw this segment of the old cartoon X-Men: Evolution while channel surfing last night, and I can just go pull it up just like that!

Please see 11:50-12:29 on this video. Also please click the title of this post to be taken to the video. Embedding was apparently disabled.

Huzzah for Scott Summers (aka Cyclops)! That's some manly action right there! For the record I don't endorse the Evolutionary worldview of said television show. But still, you gotta admit, that's manly. 8-D

And don't tell me you didn't know that Spencer having possession of both cable television and high-speed internet was bad news. ;-P

9/11

I was watching the History International Channel last night. They had a well-done show on 9/11, comprised entirely of footage taken by average people and cameramen on the ground. No narrator was necessary. It reminded one of that day well enough. Who wouldn't be moved?

And while our current administration and the left would have us forget that day, I cannot. After eight years, we still have not punished those responsible. After eight years, I still want blood.

My YouTube Channel

My friends,

With my new intarwebz capabilities, I now have my own Youtube account. I don't make videos and therefore don't upload any, but I've already favorited plenty. Just as an official disclaimer though, a few of them I have not yet seen fully (sometimes add things for myself to find later), and just because I have a faved video does not mean I support all the connotations. For instance, I have some soundtrack uploads from the Matrix films but do not promote the films. You follow?

So, if you want to hear good music, see some interesting or just downright funny videos, you've come to the right place. :-)

Please excuse the profane comments on this video, as well as the uploader's own summary, and also the quality. I just had to post this tragic story today.

Yet another reason to homeschool

(I'm really enjoying this new fast connection. ;-D)

I just watched this minutes ago. I'm not surprised.

Just a little more proof that the homosexual activists are really wolves foaming at the mouth, intent upon nothing less than getting at and destroying our lambs. I can tell you that my children will never go to a Public Indoctrination Center! Why?

Because, all I have to say to the wolves this time is, "Not on my watch you don't."

White House spammer-in-chief wants contractor to track critics

The White House is hiring a contractor to harvest information about Americans from its pages on social networking websites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.

The National Legal and Policy Center, or NLPC, revealed the White House New Media team is seeking to hire a technology vendor to collect data such as comments, tag lines, e-mail, audio and video from any place where the White House "maintains a presence" – for a period of up to eight years.

"The contractor shall provide the necessary services to capture, store, extract to approved formats, and transfer content published by EOP (Executive Office of the President) on publicly-accessible web sites, along with information posted by non-EOP persons on publicly-accessible web sites where the EOP offices under PRA (Presidential Records Act) maintains a presence," the posting states....

As WND reported, the Obama administration has made several efforts to collect information about citizens in the past. The White House announced a program Aug. 4, pleading with people around the nation to forward to a White House e-mail address anything they see "about health insurance reform that seems fishy....

"By requesting that citizens send 'fishy' e-mails to the White House, it is inevitable that the names, e-mail addresses, IP addresses, and private speech of U.S. citizens will be reported....

In fact, according to the Electronic Privacy and Information Center, federal agencies have negotiated agreements and contracts with social networking sites like Google, YouTube, SlideShare, Facebook, AddThis, Blist, Flickr and VIMEO to collect information on visitors for federal websites. All of these private companies are known to have agreements with federal agencies, but the public has never seen them.

In public comments submitted to the Office of Management and Budget, EPIC notes it has obtained documents that show federal agencies have negotiated these contracts with the private sector in violation of "existing statutory privacy rights." Those agencies include: Department of Defense, Department of the Treasury, and the National Security Agency.

There are suspicions the White House is already involved....
