Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man. -- Thomas Jefferson's "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

I must admit that I haven't researched this topic very thoroughly, but I agree with Jefferson that we can't remove from our citizens the right to bear arms (although I wouldn't be caught dead doing so myself).
It seems that gun control laws attempting to decrease violence and crime follow a similar pattern with a lot of legislation that we see today: they aim at solving the results of a problem, rather than trying to deal with the cause of the problem. And that doesn't make much sense to me.
I'm done.

Which they are trying to do....
Which isn't very nice of them.
By the way, Spencer, *HUG* for fixing your blog so I can see it again!
-Mariah :)
Which is only one more reason amongst the many that we should actually should be exercising that right....
BTW. HUG back! :-D
